Stay Tuned for Coming Attractions
Summer movies are known for great action, but vacuous plot. JEFFLINE is going to see some great action this summer, but our plot is all about increasing electronic access to full text resources and databases. You've let us know that's what you want, and JEFFLINE aims to deliver.
- Look for more subscriptions to electronic journals
Continuing the trend toward more e-subscriptions, AISR has just released 3 more new titles, all available from the E-Journals page of JEFFLINE.
- Age and Aging
- Journal of Urban Health
- Public Health Reports
All 3 are subscriptions directly from the publisher, with articles in PDF format. All are available either on-campus, or from home with your JEFFLINE password.
JEFFLINE now boasts over 250 e-subscriptions, but we are continuing to work on acquiring more.
- Look for more subscriptions to electronic books
AISR already provides access to over 3 dozen core texts in clinical medicine through MD Consult. But we'll be getting e-books from other sources, too, this summer. The classic Harrison's Internal Medicine is expected to win a large audience - and just think of all the savings from print subscriptions TJU users won't have to buy!
The popular OVID interface has recently launched an initiative to deliver books as well as journals, and AISR expects to sample the service with subscriptions to nursing books online.
- Look for new databases
In response to growing faculty interest in evidence-based medicine, AISR will add both of the EBM Reviews to its suite of OVID services this summer: the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Best Evidence. PreMedline records will now be available via OVID. PreMedline serves as a current awareness tool, and includes all the new records which are in preparation for Medline proper, before they get all of their subject indexing. With the addition of PreMedline, OVID will now be able to offer all of the records the National Library of Medicine makes available through PubMed.
CareNotes, a member of the Micromedex family of databases, provides customizable patient education material, including pre-care & after-care information and drug notes. A direct clinical support tool, CareNotes is a full text database.
- Look for a new, improved OVID interface
By mid-June AISR will have completed a transition to a new OVID interface, loaded with features you will want to try. You don't have to be a librarian to get excited about:
- searching more than one database at a time
- being able to see immediately whether the library owns items
- being able to order articles immediately online if we don't have full text available
- faster journal access
- big improvements in navigation of search results and printing
Not to worry - OVID is keeping its popular icons and mapping features, so you won't have to learn it all from scratch. So stay tuned for the new research and clinical support tools coming this summer. JEFFLINE is on the move.
