Community of Science --
New Funding
While a recent study between AISR and Philadelphia-based Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) demonstrates that Thomas Jefferson University ranks among the most productive and prestigious NIH-funded academic medical centers in the United States, Jefferson researchers remain under increasing pressure to locate external funding resources to support their activities. In an era of severe fiscal austerity and amidst stiff competition within the biomedical research community, the researcher's access to current and comprehensive information about research grants and funding resources could not be more important. In response, AISR--in partnership with TJU's Office of Scientific Affairs--is pleased to announce that Jeffersonians now have direct access via JEFFLINE to the Community of Science (COS) Funding Opportunities database.
"COS provides principle investigators at TJU with only relevant funding opportunities. More importantly, COS alerts the researcher to smaller and local funding sources that are not always advertised widely and are, therefore, often missed."

Jefferson Research Community Sings Praises of COS
The COS Funding Opportunities database links researchers with funding resources from around the world. The database is specifically designed to enable individual researchers to easily locate funding tailored to their particular needs.

Comprehensive Funding Information
The COS Funding Opportunities database features a flexible, robust and elegantly simple interface. It encompasses information on funding opportunities from a broad range of sources, including--but not limited to--federal agencies, state and provincial organizations, commercial organizations, not-for-profit institutions, independent foundations and professional associations. Continuously up-dated and constantly growing, the database is international in range and scope, and multidisciplinary in content and audience. Indexing more than 14,000 funding sources, this may well be the most comprehensive source of funding information available on the World Wide Web.

Easy, Intuitive Searching
COS Funding Opportunities offers a number of search options, enabling users to pinpoint the information they need:

  • Main Search - enables the searcher to conduct a targeted, field-specific search using both text fields and pick lists.
  • Simple Search - allows searches to be conducted in three main fields: All Fields, Sponsor, and Deadline, a scaled-down version of the main search interface, designed for novice searchers.
  • Search by Keyword - makes possible the choice to browse or search the database using COS's controlled-vocabulary.
  • Search by Country - allows investigators to conduct country-specific searches for funding opportunities according to citizenship of location requirements.
  • Search or Browse by Sponsor - provides searchers with the ability to search or browse the database by all sponsors, by US Federal sponsors only, by government sponsors only, et cetera.
Access to the Community of Science Funding Opportunities database on JEFFLINE is domain protected; you must access the database via JEFFLINE from a workstation on campus (you cannot connect from a remote server).
