Library Access Privileges: Spouse/Domestic Partner
A spouse or domestic partner of a Thomas Jefferson University
or Hospital faculty, staff, or student may register for a Scott
Library card for free.
If you live on campus:
- Present your TJU photo ID to the Security Officer at the 1st floor
entrance to the Library.
- Register for Library services at the 2nd floor Circulation Window.
- Present your TJU photo ID whenever requesting Library services.
If you live off campus:
- Off-campus residents do not receive TJU photo IDs. In order to obtain
the card, you must be accompanied by your spouse or partner to the
library's second floor Circulation Window and provide proper documentation.
Proper documentation is considered a marriage license or at least
two of the following items: joint deed, mortgage or lease agreement,
joint checking account, common ownership of a motor vehicle, driver's
licenses listing a common address, or designation as beneficiary on
a life insurance policy.
- Circulation staff will issue you a pink Library card.
- Take the card to the Photo ID Center located in the Jefferson Bookstore at 1009 Chestnut Street. They will attach a photo to the card and laminate it.
- Present your pink Scott Library card, with photo, whenever requesting
Library services.
Services Included
- Access to Scott Library during regularly scheduled hours.
This includes weekends, evenings and 24-hour access to the first and
fourth floors. The Library card must be presented to enter the building
and worn while in the Library.
- Use of all Library materials and public computers.
The public computers provide MS Office products, Internet access and
use of freely accessible Web materials (on JEFFLINE's
E-Resources page or List
of All Databases). This includes CD-ROM databases available in
the Information Services area on the second floor of the Library.
NOT included:
- databases, electronic journals and electronic books restricted
to TJU institutional use by licensing agreements.
- computers in the Learning Resources Centers.
- Borrowing privileges for Scott Library's print collection,
subject to the same policies
that apply to TJU patrons.
- Discounted photocopy and laser printing rates @ 10 cents
per copy plus the cost of a copy card ($1). Photocopy machines
and laser printers are self-service, card-operated. Copy cards may
be purchased and recharged at the Circulation Window on the second
floor.
- Database searches by an Information Services librarian
($35/topic plus online fees, up to 25 searches per year). Scott Memorial
Library has access to hundreds of databases on a wide range of scholarly
and popular topics. For more information or to request a search contact

- Monthly alerting services on biomedical topics.
Fees for alerting services include a one-time set-up fee of $35 and
$6/topic for in-house databases or a negotiable rate for vendor-based
online services.
- JeffDocs
document delivery services for items owned by Scott Library
are provided for a fee of $5/item, or $10/item for fax delivery. Interlibrary
loan services are not included.
- Access to the services of Medical Media
Services at the same fees as Thomas Jefferson University customers.
The MMS department provides slides, photography,
artwork, and other biomedical communication services.
- Free Education Services workshops,
subject to availability of seats and the same no-show fees that apply
to students and faculty.
Services Excluded
- Interlibrary Loan services.
- Licensed databases, electronic journals and electronic books. See

- Learning Resources services (LRC computers, nonprint materials)
Responsibilities
- Report lost or stolen Library cards to Scott Library immediately.
You are responsible for all Library items charged to their card prior
to reporting a loss. Replacement cards may be purchased for $5.
- Follow all Library policies. You are responsible for all materials
charged to your card. Failure to comply with policies may result in
loss of Library privileges.
